Batting glove care depends mainly on your utilization, game/practice conditions, moisture (sweat/humidity), and a number of other factors. Whatever the case, our MLB® pros have long stood by a number of care tips that have worked for them.
It's much easier to maintain the longevity of your gloves if you're caring for them after each practice/ game rather than waiting until you see wear spots or deterioration. At that point, it might just be too late, so care early and often.
Dry leather cleaning brushes are one of the easiest ways to care for your gloves. Simply take the tool and gently brush of excess soil that couldn't be removed at the feild. Be careful not to scrub too hard. you don't want to feel like you're "scraping" the gloves in any way.
Avoid harsh chemicals/ soaps as these will tend to strip away all of the natural oils in leather that make the gloves supple and soft. If you really need to clean the gloves, then opt instead to spot-clean with a tiny bit of soap and water on a rag or cloth. Remember, NEVER to fully saturate the gloves if you can avoid it.
The natural oils in the leather are what you want to preserve the best you can. The longer these remain untainted, the longer your gloves will hold up. If your gloves are really in need of restoration, we'd recommend grabbing a very simple leather conditioner (the fewer the ingredients usually the better), applying with a small sponge onto blemished areas, allowing it to dry naturally, and then buffing out when dry. We recommend testing in a discreet area first.
For many reasons, natural aeration is critical to your batting gloves. Stuffing sweaty, damp gloves in the bottom of your bag will cause bacteria growth, leading to foul odors, and denatured leather that loses many of the extraordinary natural properties it possesses. We recommend either hooking your batting gloves onto the side of your equipment bag or attaching them to our Glove Aerators with built-in-odor-relieving and moisture-absorption pods that help extend the lifespan of the batting gloves.
Be sure to keep those gloves fresh and take you game to the next level.
